Alicia Sorensen
The Principia English Teacher
St. Louis, MO
I graduated from Northeastern State University with a degree in English Education in December of 2007. Since that time, I have worked in three different school settings and obtained a Masters Degree in Education and Innovation from Webster University. My career began at a Title One school in the heart of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I learned the value of making meaningful connections to students who came from situations and backgrounds vastly different from my own. On the heels of my public school experience in Tulsa, my husband and I moved to Indiana where I had the opportunity to teach at a public school in Kokomo for several years and harness my craft further. More recently, my family and I made our final move to Saint Louis, Missouri, where I have been working at a private school for the last few years. What I have learned from every part of my education journey is that the division of socioeconomic status, race, sex, size, or any other label society has to offer can be overcome with compassion, kindness, and genuine connection. I thoroughly enjoy my life as a classroom teacher, but my goal and hope are to one day teach and lead future educators in understanding the value of their role as guides of our future generations.
