Ashley O’Toole, an educator in independent and public schools from early childhood through high school for over 10 years, believes that meaningful relationships grounded in knowledge of the children and adults within the educational community, intentional habits and systems, and passion for one’s work and the mission of a school are elements that lay the foundation for successful teaching and learning.  As the Lower School Learning Specialist/Counselor at MICDS, Ashley’s role involves both micro- and macro-level work with students, faculty, parents, and the systems of learning and support within the Lower School.  With a background in child development, psychology, and education, her career interests include brain-based instructional and learning methods, assessment for learning, measuring and teaching essential skills, self-awareness and self-regulation, mindfulness, communication and problem-solving skills, social-emotional learning, and counseling methodology.  Ashley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master of Science in Clinical Child Psychology, a Specialist Degree in School Psychology, and she is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist.
