Christopher Barker

MICDS
World Languages Faculty
St. Louis, MO
Christopher Barker is currently a Spanish teacher in the Upper School at MICDS. He began his teaching career at a Spanish immersion school in St. Louis city, where he taught music, PE and general content for three years to a wide range of students. At the immersion school he had the good fortune to collaborate with teachers from all around the Spanish-speaking world, adopting new teaching strategies and developing a curriculum that helped students learn through inquiry. At MICDS, Christopher has taught Spanish to a range of proficiency levels, and he takes great care to design, find and implement authentic Spanish resources in his curriculum. Over the course of his teaching career, Christopher has worked as a curriculum developer and leader in Spanish immersion camps and he has chaperoned groups of students to Puerto Rico and Argentina. Undoubtedly, his favorite aspect about learning and teaching Spanish is the dialectical variation he encounters in his travels and conversations. He is a proud member of the St. Louis Puerto Rican Society and in his free time he enjoys reading, writing, traveling and playing ping pong.
