Bob Shaw is a veteran science educator whose passion is to engage children in science and outdoor education. Shaw serves as Chair of the Pre-K through grade 12 Science Department and Director of Sustainability at Mary Institute Country Day School (MICDS).

At MICDS, Shaw has facilitated a student and faculty culture to research and implement sustainable practices on campus and in the community. He has worked extensively to move from science to STEM and Maker/Robotics programs. Shaw was a driving force in the construction of the LEED Platinum McDonnell STEM Building at MICDS. His mantra of Seek, Discover, Share and Reflect has turned students into agents of science in their daily lives. As an established conference presenter, Shaw has shared his lessons and best practices with children and educators from all over the world, delivering over 500 professional development sessions.

Shaw came to MICDS in 2004 as the pre-K through grade 4 science specialist. Previously, Shaw taught 12 years in schools recognized nationally for constructivist, project-based learning and service-learning programs. Shaw has received numerous awards and honors, including 2011 FIRST Robotics Volunteer of the Year, 2008-09 State of Missouri Outstanding Elementary Science Teacher, 2002 Illinois Technology Educator of the Year. At MICDS, Shaw was recognized with the 2006 Faculty Merit Award as well as twice honored as the Suzanne Siegel Harbison '45 Chair of Distinguished Teaching in Science.

Bob serves as on several local, state, and national science and education committees. He holds lifetime teaching certificates in Illinois and Missouri, trained in Montessori and Reggio teaching philosophies and is a current Doctoral candidate in the STEM Education Enhancement program. He teaches a graduate level science methods course at Webster University in his MICDS classroom emphasizing sustainability and environmental issues in STEM teaching.
